The holidays are full of joy… until your annual Elf viewing gets interrupted by a shotty internet connection. While tech isn’t something anyone wants to think about over Christmas (trust us, we’d rather smash our phones than see another email notification), here are a few handy tips that might make your life a little less stressful!
1. Prep Your Devices
Before you’ve got the family around, give your gadgets a quick bit of care. Update them to the latest firmware, clear some storage space, and check those Wi-Fi connections. No-one wants so sit down for the boxing day test, only to find that Kayo has an update pending!
2. Be Extra Cyber-safe
The Grinch isn’t the only one trying to steal Christmas. Scammers and hackers love the holiday season – because they know you wont be looking too closely at their fake emails! Avoid suspicious messages, stick to secure websites and double check you’re not putting your passwords or card details into anything dodgy.
3. Online Shopping : Stay Smart
From scoring deals on Black Friday to last-minute Christmas shopping, eCommerce sites are your best friend.. and sometimes your worst enemy. Stick to reputable retailers, and watch out for too-good-to-be-true prices.
An extra tip, if you’re thinking of buying something for yourself – hold out until the 26th. More often than not, people will sell their duplicate gifts on Facebook Marketplace of Buy Swap Sell.
4. Keep the Kids Entertained
Need a couple minutes to yourself? There are plenty of Christmas-themed websites and games to keep the kids entertained while you catch a breather. Between Googles’ Santa Tracker and Elf Yourself, you’ll have hours of distraction at your disposal.
5. Make Sure Your Website is Holiday-proof
If you’ve got a website, now’s the time to ensure it’s ready for the holiday rush. Here’s how you can lock it down:
- Optimise for speed and ensure it’s prepared for increased bandwidth demands.
- Double-check that all plugins, themes, and software are updated to the latest versions.
- Add extra layers of security to deter holiday hackers.
- Ensure your website’s content is up to date and relevant.
Here in the office, we’ve bolstered our clients’ websites with the latest security patches, improved speed, and enhanced scalability to ensure they meet the demands of the holidays. Want to know more? Check out our maintenance plans and hosting solutions.
6. Put Down The Devices
Last but not least, remember that the holidays are a time to connect with people, not just screens. Put the phone away, log out of email, and enjoy time with your loved ones. And don’t worry – we’re proactively monitoring all our clients’ websites. So, if something goes wrong, you don’t even have to think about it – we’ve got it covered.
From all of us at Simple Pixels, have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
Please note, our office will be closed between Friday the 20th of December to Monday the 6th of January.
