It’s unfortunately a tried-and-true thing that designers – or creatives of any kind – have their knowledge come into question time and time again. Maybe it’s because the very ‘thing’ that we curate is often perceived as a clay ball open to be moulded by personal opinion, not strategy sought out by business partners.
Although we are artists in our own right, as designers we are so much more than that.
We sculpt and paint our designs under the influence of reason, logic and insight. What that means is every decision we make in the work we present stems from the desire of reaching a goal. That goal, of course, is finding success for your business.
Remember that. Our goal is to find success for your business.
If our main goal was finding success for our business, we’d rush out designs as quickly and basic as possible. Afterall, you have to sell product to make a sale, so more money comes from more work – right? The truth is this works for some people; commercial designers, logo generators, fiver artists, etc. you name it, but it doesn’t work for strategic creatives such as myself and the others here in the Simple Pixel team.
What we care about more than anything is finding the right solution to the problems you bring us, whether that be needing a new website, a rebrand or a totally new logo. And I can promise you this, we would never present anything we don’t already love.
And does it hurt a little when client’s don’t love it too? Of course, but that’s all part of the job. What stings more, however, is when our clients simply order us around like mac monkeys: people with the skills to do what they want – without much forethought given to whether it’s actually effective or not.
(We might not look exactly like this, but maybe it’s not too far off either!)
Clients DO know just everything there is to know about their business, and they’re our favourite source of information. However, there have been times we encounter clients who may not fully recognise the depth of our expertise, and the strategic thinking behind our work.
When our clients come to us, we view it as the beginning of a partnership. Together, we bring our industry knowledge and insights to your creative vision. We keep up with trends, debunk bad practices and aim to keep you at the front of the game.
If something doesn’t look quite right, we encourage clients to come to us and discuss ‘why,’ and more than that, join us in finding the most effective solutions together – as business partners. Are you making decisions based on personal preference, or what’s effective for your business, and loved by your audience? It’s fine to look and do things like everyone else, it makes for good business, but what we want is to make your business fantastic.
